Efektivitas Biochar dalam Memperbaiki Sifat-Sifat Tanah serta Meningkatkan Pertumbuhan Vegetatif Jagung (Zea mays L.) pada Tekstur Tanah yang Berbeda

Abstract

Kabupaten Bangkalan didominasi oleh jenis tanah litosol dan mediteran merah yang berasal dari bahan induk batu pasir dan batu kapur. Dua jenis tanah tersebut mempunyai sifat fisik dan kimia yang menjadi faktor pembatas sehingga menghambat pertumbuhan tanaman budidaya. Biochar menjadi pembenah tanah organik yang kompleks dengan kemampuanya memperbaiki porositas, menurunkan bobot isi, memperbaiki pH, meningkatkan karbon tanah hingga kemampuanya dalam mitigasi perubahan iklim. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan September 2025 hingga November 2025, di Lahan Percobaan Program Studi Agroekoteknologi Fakultas Pertanian Universitas Trunodjoyo Madura. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap non faktorial dengan 8 perlakuan yaitu, PTA (tanah pasir; tanpa perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 1); PTB  (tanah pasir; tanpa perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 3); PBA (tanah pasir; perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 1); PBB (tanah pasir; perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 3); LTA (tanah liat; tanpa perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 1); LTB (tanah liat; tanpa perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 3); LBA (tanah liat; perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 1); LBB (tanah liat; perlakuan biochar; jumlah tanaman 3). Aplikasi biochar efektif memperbaiki sifat tanah berpasir yang ditunjukkan oleh peningkatan pH tanah dan kadar air sehingga meningkatkan pertumbuhan vegetatif jagung, yang tercermin pada peningkatan tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, biomassa, dan diameter batang.
